When Your Water Source Is the Problem,
Standard Filters Aren’t Enough.
Heavy-Duty Filtration for Landscape & Turf
If your site draws from an open water body, uses reclaimed or non-potable water with elevated suspended solids, a sand media filter provides a level of protection that disc and screen filters alone cannot match.
Landscape & Turf Settings
-
Large commercial parks and green spaces
-
Golf course fairways, roughs, and surrounds
-
Sports fields and athletic complexes
-
HOA campuses and multi-family communities (pond-fed systems)
-
Highway and roadway medians on reclaimed water
-
SDI (subsurface drip irrigation) with harsh water sources
Water Source Conditions
-
Open surface ponds, lakes, canals, reservoirs
-
Water with iron and/or manganese content or high sediment loads
-
Reclaimed / non-potable water with elevated suspended solids
-
Agricultural runoff or irrigation return water
-
Sources where disc or screen filters require excessive service frequency
Product Features & Benefits
Why use a SandStorm™?
The SandStorm™ Single Chamber Metal Media Filter is engineered for landscape and turf systems drawing from open, reclaimed, or compromised water sources. By filtering throughout the entire media bed rather than at a single surface layer, SandStorm™ provides higher solids capacity, more consistent performance, and longer protection under high‑sediment conditions. With flow capacities from 130 to 350 GPM per vessel, it’s well suited for large golf courses, sports complexes, and municipal parks. Available in a variety of tank sizes allows you to expand your systems as your project grows without having to replace existing infrastructure.Specifications

SandStorm™, AlphaDisc™, or ScreenGuard™ Which Filter Is Right for Your Water Source?
Netafim offers all three filtration types because different water sources, system sizes, and site conditions call for different solutions. The table below helps match the right filter to the job. If your water source is genuinely dirty (open surface water, iron/manganese, high sediment load), SandStorm™ is where you start.
| Consider this when… | SandStorm™ Media Filter | AlphaDisc™ Disc Filter | ScreenGuard™ Screen Filter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best water source | Open surface water with high sediment, iron, manganese, or silt. Best when the water is genuinely contaminated. | Recycled water, pond water, and surface water with moderate organic load and algae. | Clean well water and municipal potable sources with low particulate load. |
| Filtration method | Depth filtration through a 16-inch sand media bed. Highest capacity for heavy contamination loads. | Depth filtration through stacked disc elements. Strong against organic and biological load. | Surface filtration through a stainless steel screen element. Best for clean, consistent sources. |
| Iron & manganese | Primary recommendation. Sand media captures iron and manganese particulates before they enter the drip system. | Not ideal. Disc filtration does not address iron or manganese specifically. | Not suitable. Screen filtration does not capture dissolved iron or manganese. |
| Cleaning | Automatic backwash with periodic media management required. | Fully automatic self-cleaning backflush with no manual intervention. | Automatic self-cleaning backflush, app-monitored via the Netafim SG App. |
| Flow range | 130 to 350 GPM per vessel, designed for large commercial systems. | 3-inch single up to 12-inch Alphapollo, scaling from residential to golf course. | 2-inch to 10-inch, suited to moderate commercial and residential systems. |
| Footprint | Larger tank footprint (30 to 48-inch diameter). Plan for dedicated space or an above-ground installation. | Compact vertical install that fits tight vaults and underground installations. | Compact, in horizontal or vertical orientation, suited for tight installation spaces. |
| Scalability | Add vessels via the modular manifold to scale capacity without rebuilding. | Add spines without replacing the filter body. | Replace or parallel additional units to increase flow. |
| Ideal for | Large commercial parks, golf courses, sports fields, and any site drawing from open water or water with iron or manganese. | HOA, commercial landscape, sports fields, and recycled or surface water without heavy iron or sediment load. | Drip and sprinkler systems on clean well water or potable sources. |
